Módulo 3: El gas y las energías renovables, y su papel como combustibles energéticos en un mundo cada vez más descarbonizado

Introduction

La transición energética cobra cada vez más importancia para los formuladores de políticas en todo el mundo. Los esfuerzos de descarbonización abarcan múltiples áreas del panorama energético, siendo el sector eléctrico un elemento clave en numerosas iniciativas que promueven la transición hacia energías más limpias. Este módulo analizará el papel del gas natural y las energías renovables hasta el momento y examinará las tendencias clave que asegurarán su continuidad como combustibles esenciales para la economía global.

Course Outline

La primera parte del módulo ofrecerá un resumen del panorama global y de las principales tendencias, destacando el papel de las energías renovables. Se examinarán detenidamente las tecnologías establecidas y emergentes y su potencial para alterar las vías energéticas tradicionales. El segundo día se centrará en el sector del gas natural y en cómo los distintos combustibles compiten y se complementan a diferentes niveles, especialmente en el sector eléctrico de América Latina.

El módulo se complementa con sesiones interactivas en las cuales los participantes podrán comprender los cambios estructurales del sector energético latinoamericano, evaluar riesgos y desarrollar las estrategias que deberán seguir los distintos actores a fin de adaptarse a un entorno en evolución. Además, los participantes realizarán ejercicios de escenarios para comprender acabadamente las fuerzas que impulsan el cambio y las principales incertidumbres en la región, con énfasis en los factores tecnológicos que respaldan las estrategias de negocios y el pensamiento prospectivo.

    David Crisostomo

    Director Latin America Gas & Power | S&P Global Commodity Insights


    David Crisostomo is a Director for the Latin America Climate and Sustainability team at S&P Global Commodity Insights.

    He is an expert in the Mexican gas and power markets with prior experience in Andean power markets as well. His research and analysis include gas and electricity market fundamentals, modelling, regulatory framework analysis and implications for business opportunities. Mr. Crisostomo’s research has included natural gas transportation studies, distributed power potential in Mexico and Latin America, power generation and transmission investment opportunities, asset valuations, and the analysis of operational and investment strategies for utilities, financial institutions and other market participants.

    Before joining IHS Markit (S&P Global Commodity Insights) in 2011, he was at Iberdrola Spain, where he developed a power dispatch tool for the Spanish market, and prior to Iberdrola, he worked at ABB.

    Marcela Rosas is a Director for the Latin America Gas, Power and Climate Solutions practice. She is an expert in fundamental analysis and outlooks for the largest natural gas markets in the Americas, including scenario development. Her experience includes running gas simulation models that provide balanced market projections for gas demand, pipeline flows (and prices in the case of the United States and Canada). She has covered the North American gas markets, and currently covers the Andean Region and Southern Cone markets.

    Ms. Rosas has contributed regularly to service reports for Global gas and LNG services, to consulting projects and studies. Her research has included reports on the drivers of natural gas price volatility and fundamentals, on LNG arbitrage between markets in the Pacific and the Atlantic Basins, on North American LNG exports, on the effect of global gas prices on different markets, and more recently on the potential for Argentina gas to reach Brazil.

    Ms. Rosas past professional experience includes project logistics, bidding, and sales for the pipeline inspection industry. She holds a BA from Mexico Autonomous Institute of Technology and an MS from the Colorado School of Mines and the French Petroleum Institute

    Director of the Latin America Power and Renewables | S&P Global Commodity Insights


    Emanuel Simon is a Director of the Latin America Power and Renewables team at S&P Global Commodity Insights. He has more than 15 years of experience in energy markets in Latin America, with roles spanning from lead project engineer to market advisor in the power sector. Prior to joining S&P Global, Simon was with Siemens, where he worked with engineering design for the power sector, the oil and gas industry, and energy efficiency projects. He also held a position as a business development engineer, responsible for pursuing new business initiatives across the company’s portfolio of products and services. Simon holds a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from Federal University of Santa Catarina, has completed postgraduate studies in engineering at Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ), and holds a Master of Science from UFRJ.
