Introduction
The energy transition is increasingly central to policymakers across the world. Decarbonization efforts span various parts of the energy landscape, with the power sector being a central focus of many actions that enable the energy transition. This module will explore the role of natural gas and renewables to date and examine the key trends that will keep them both as essential fuels of the global economy.
Course Outline
The first part of the module will provide a recap of the global picture and key trends, highlighting the role of renewables. It will take a special look at established and emerging technologies and their potential to disrupt established energy paths. The second day will focus on the natural gas sector and how various fuels compete and complement each other to varying degrees, especially in Latin America’s power sector.
The module is complemented with interactive sessions where participants will understand the structural changes to Latin America’s energy sector, assess risks, and develop strategies that different players must pursue in a changing environment. Participants will also engage in scenario exercises to fully understand driving forces and major uncertainties in the region, emphasizing technological factors to support business strategies and forward-thinking.
