The energy transition towards a low-carbon economy is an indisputable necessity today, and represents a great challenge for the oil and gas industry in the region. In particular, the refining sector faces the double challenge of meeting the growing energy demand, and reducing the carbon footprint of its products, all this with minimal margins compared to the other segments of the sector, and in a global and regional context of great uncertainty. ARPEL, in collaboration with IHS Markit and Arthur D. Little, developed this study of the prospects for the refining sector in the framework of energy transitions.
