TGN: NEW ARPEL MEMBER COMPANY

  • Transportadora de Gas del Norte (TGN) joins the group of ARPEL member companies, thus committing itself to the exchange of knowledge and experiences and to the development of the sector by fostering best practices and solutions aimed at management and operational excellence.

TGN is the holder of a license to provide the essential public service of transporting natural gas via high-pressure pipelines, with the exclusive right to operate the two existing gas pipeline systems in the North and Central-West regions of Argentina.

Currently, TGN is responsible for the transportation of 40 % of the gas injected into the Argentine trunk pipelines, accounting for 18 % of the energy matrix of the country.

In addition, it operates and maintains over 9,100 km of gas pipelines (more than 6,800 km of its proprietary system, and 2,300 km of third-party gas pipelines) as well as 20 compressor stations with installed power of 375,620 HP, which enables the Neuquén, Northeast and Bolivian basins to be connected to 8 of the 9 distributors, industries, and thermal power plants located in 15 Argentine provinces.

From the beginning of its operations in 1992, TGN has expanded the transportation capacity from 22.6 MMm3/day to 60 MMm3/day, which represents an increase of more than 165 %, has made investments amounting to more than US$ 1.3 billion, has installed more than 2,600 kilometers of new gas pipelines, has built 8 new compressor stations, and has added more than 216,000 HP of installed power to the system.

In 1997, TGN incorporated a new business unit based on the operation and maintenance of gas pipelines owned by third parties.
