NEW ARPEL WHITE PAPER TO BOOST THE CONTRIBUTION OF THE SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT GOALS OF THE OIL AND GAS SECTOR IN THE REGION

  • ARPEL has launched a new white paper titled “A Roadmap to Boost the Contribution to the SDGs of the Oil and Gas Industry in Latin America and the Caribbean.”

This document establishes a framework for action to boost collaboration and contribution to the SDGs of the oil and gas companies in the region.

It defines a common work agenda and concrete actions to promote the incorporation of the SDGs into the business strategies, establish partnerships, provide management solutions, measure, and communicate progress.

It also represents a milestone in ARPEL’S commitment to sustainability and the United Nations 2030 agenda.

The document is the result of more than one year of collaborative work among our members and was developed after several consultations among industry specialists across the region.

The 2030 Agenda, crystallized by means of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), establishes a favorable scenario for all parties to understand and collaborate among themselves, including companies, governments, civil society, and academia.

ARPEL has adopted this Agenda as a reference framework to guide its actions, seeking to maximize the contribution of the companies in the sector to sustainable development.

In total, 22 lines of action have been identified with the programs, projects, and initiatives that are being carried out or will be developed in 2021-2022 to boost the contribution to the SDGs.

The prioritized SDGs for this period are: Gender Equality; Affordable and Clean Energy; Decent Work and Economic Growth; Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure; Responsible Consumption and Production; Climate Action, and Partnerships to achieve the Goals.

The Roadmap was prepared by ARPEL Social Responsibility Committee and SDG Work Group, coordinated by the Project Manager Pablo Ferragut.

The document is available in Spanish and English.
