ARPEL WITH YPFB, PETROPERÚ, SPH, AND AMGN IN THE FORUM ON THE CSR CHALLENGE IN THE HYDROCARBON SECTOR

  • In mid-May, ARPEL participated in the Forum “The CSR Challenge and Future in the Hydrocarbon Sector,” organized by Worldcob (World Confederation of Businesses).

The speakers of this virtual seminar were Mario Catari, Quality, Health, Safety, Environment and CSR Manager at YPFB Chaco; Tiffany Bayly, President of Sociedad Peruana de Hidrocarburos (SPH)’s Sustainability Committee; Paulina Gómez, a member of the Communication and Sustainability Committee of Mexico’s Asociación Mexicana de Gas Natural (AMGN); Beatriz Alva, Petroperú Social Management Head, and Pablo Ferragut, ARPEL Project Manager.

The moderator was Walter Daniel, Worldcob Quality and CSR Director.

On behalf of ARPEL, Ferragut focused on four critical aspects of the Corporate Social Responsibility challenge for the oil and gas sector in the region.

First, he remarked that the energy transition is changing the business drivers, affecting fossil fuel supply and demand. Therefore, the companies in the sector need to align to this transition.

In this regard, he pointed out that although digitalization is a trend that opens opportunities to generate efficiencies and operational improvements, it also poses new risks to be managed, such as cybersecurity. He also emphasized that corporate management must be increasingly committed to achieving the Sustainable Development and stakeholder goals.

Finally, he highlighted the need to further drive transparency and sustainability reporting, as a means to evidence progress and align management with sustainability.

“In short, the companies in the sector must be increasingly aligned in the fight against Climate Change and the energy transition, as well as with digitalization, cybersecurity, and operational and energy efficiency, with SDGs and other stakeholders’ demands, showing their contribution to development by means of a transparent management,” he concluded.
