ARPEL DISCUSSED ENERGY TRANSITION AT THE NINTH EARTH SCIENCE CONVENTION ORGANIZED BY THE CUBAN GEOLOGY SOCIETY
On April 5-9, ARPEL participated in the Ninth Earth Science Convention, organized by the Cuban Geology Society.
The main topics of the event were related to the five Congresses included in the Convention: Geology, Geophysics, Mining, Oil and Gas, and Earth Science Informatics.
ARPEL Downstream Director, Irene Alfaro, represented the Association in this important Convention. Alfaro made a presentation on “Energy Transitions in Latin America and the Caribbean. The Role of the Oil & Gas Industry.”
Alfaro discussed the challenge of dissociating economic growth from the emission of greenhouse gases. She also referred to the opportunity of supporting countries in the region in their sustainable energy transition processes, with the aim of developing a roadmap for energy transitions in Latin American and Caribbean countries.
“The ultimate goal of all these initiatives must be to meet society’s energy demand while reducing greenhouse gas emissions in a cost-effective way,” she remarked.
“Generating trust and strengthening coordinated policies, cooperation, and multilateralism to achieve coherent and comprehensive energy transitions and an effective regional energy integration,” Alfaro concluded when referring to opportunities and commitments.
