ARPEL’S SPEECH ON ENERGY TRANSITIONS IN THE REGION IN SNMPE WEBINAR

  • At the end of September ARPEL participated in the Webinar “The Role of the Oil and Gas Industry in the Energy Transition Process,” organized by the National Society of Mining, Petroleum and Energy (SNMPE).

The panel was formed by Virginia Barreda, Natural Gas Supervision Manager of Osinergmin; Antonio López, Energy Transition and Climate Change Senior Manager of Repsol; Erick García, Director General of the General Directorate of Hydrocarbons of the Ministry of Energy and Mines, and Irene Alfaro, Downstream Managing Director of ARPEL.

Alfaro pointed out that the Association's strategic goals in energy transitions are currently aimed at generating a common understanding on energy transitions among our companies, identifying the related opportunities and risks, supporting our partners in adapting to the new business scenario, and strengthening our position in the most relevant discussion forums.

She also highlighted the launch of the ARPEL White Paper on Energy Transitions, which seeks to contribute to the development of a roadmap for Energy Transitions in the countries within Latin America and the Caribbean.

The document is freely accessible and available at the following link: https://arpel.org/library/publication/519/

Alfaro stated that the White Paper represents a very important commitment of ARPEL private and state-owned companies, and is the only paper that reflects the position of a highly significant segment of the oil and gas industry in Latin America and the Caribbean to support the energy transition process.

She also said that “technological innovation will be key for transitioning toward a low-carbon economy, and here, both the industry and the governments have a role to play.”

According to the International Energy Agency, carbon capture, use, and storage is considered one of the key technologies to achieve the goals of the Paris Agreement.

“ARPEL is ready and willing to support the acceleration of the energy transition process through dynamic cooperation and integration, as required by the energy industry and the markets in the region,” added Alfaro.
