ARPEL Member Companies have pursued a path of developing a prospectus of potential climate change projects for presentation to the international community. These potential projects pose enormous challenges while providing an opportunity for both ARPEL companies and the international investment community to work together towards mitigating the impacts of Greenhouse Gases (GHGs). By their nature, these are tremendous opportunities for foreign investment as they fit within the climate change mechanisms contemplated for technology transfer, Capacity building and sustainable development.
Climate change or greenhouse gas management issues are essential elements when any organization or government is considering new development projects. In addition, existing projects are also being reviewed to evaluate any potential climate change mitigation strategies.

Given the increased motorization in Latin America and the Caribbean, air quality has undergone an increasing deterioration. It has been established that the contribution of the emissions proceeding from motor vehicles to the inventory of the main air pollutants of some of the most important urban centers of the Region, is high. This has required the development of strategies and action plans to achieve an effective improvement of the air quality. This ARPEL Report presents a systemic approach of the origin and characteristics of vehicle emissions based on the present state of the knowledge on scientific, technological and regional aspects.
