Poor air quality is a concern in many countries in Latin America, particularly in large cities. Like many other urban areas, sources of common air contaminants may be divided into three categories: point, mobile and area. Point sources are typically associated with industrial processes, mobile sources relate to emissions caused by both on and off-road vehicles and area sources consist of emissions attributable to human activities such as home heating, backyard burning, lawn care, etc.
