PETROBRAS UNIVERSITY HOSTED THE FIRST MODULE OF ARPEL LEADERSHIP PROGRAM, 2019 EDITION

  • The world is in transition toward a new energy future, where there are important questions about how to position oneself for the future. As a result, energy, oil and gas companies, in particular, should understand a set of more complex and interconnected issues ranging from what the future energy mix should be; what effect decarbonization will have; what the appropriate combination of upstream assets is - conventional, unconventional, offshore and improved recovery; and what the value proposition that energy companies bring to the communities or the license to operate in increased number of sensitive areas will be.

The main objective of ARPEL Leadership Program, open to professionals from member and non-member companies, is for leaders and future new leaders to gain a broad vision of the future of the industry, the major questions arising from possible scenarios, and the factors and skills that will be needed to solve the problems to successfully navigate toward the future.

Module 1 of the 2019 edition of the training, which was held May 8-10 at the Petrobras University, located in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, focused on "Global Factors and their Effect on the Upstream Sector in Latin America."

This first presentation was attended by professionals from YPF, TECPETROL, SCHLUMBERGER, ECOPETROL, PETROBRAS, TRANSPETRO, RECOPE and STAATSOLIE, from Argentina, Brazil, Costa Rica, Suriname and Colombia.

It was delivered by Mr. Bob Fryklund, Chief Strategist of the Upstream Sector in IHS, and Mr. Rodrigo Vaz, Director of Latin America in IHS Upstream Consulting.

The agenda included various topics such as: trends, factors and global players, overview of Latin America in the context of global trends, business models, ultra-deep waters, and license to operate, in addition to practical group exercises.

Module 1 ended with a visit to the Research and Development Center of Petrobras (CENPES).
