Training on Pipeline Integrity Management was provided to technicians from COGA, ENAP, Pluspetrol and YPFB Transporte
The Pipeline Technology Center of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, hosted the latest edition of the course on Pipeline Integrity Management, which addressed “internal corrosion.” This training, organized by the Regional Association of Oil, Gas and Biofuels Sector Companies in Latin America and the Caribbean (ARPEL), was attended by technicians from COGA, ENAP, Pluspetrol and YPFB Transporte, with instructors from Transpetro and the Research and Development Center of Petrobras (CENPES).
It is a unique regional training program for the accreditation of evaluators in pipeline integrity management, which began in 2012 and has already more than 100 students enrolled. The program aims to facilitate the identification of the various threats that can interfere with this type of infrastructure and implement relevant prevention and mitigation actions to minimize their effects.
It consists of four modules: external corrosion; internal corrosion; forces of nature, operational errors and third parties’ actions; and evaluation of mechanical integrity and risk analysis.
The main topics of the module presented in early July in Brazil were corrosion in oil and gas pipelines, case studies of corrosion in pipelines and techniques for monitoring, and chemical treatment injection, among others.
The course aims to provide an excellent theoretical-practical training through trials and practical tests.
The third module on “forces of nature, operational errors and third parties’ actions” will be presented August 24-29 in Santa Cruz, Bolivia, while the fourth module on “evaluation of mechanical integrity and risk analysis” will be given November 16-21 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
