ARPEL WORKSHOP "ADVANCES IN SAFETY PROCESS MANAGEMENT" AND PRESENTATION OF "SUSTAINABILITY AND ITS VALUE FOR BUSINESS" BY THE SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY COMMITTEE IN THE CONTEXT OF THE AOG EXPO 2019

  • In the framework of the XII Argentina Oil & Gas Expo 2019 and the 4th Latin American and 6th National Congress on Health, Safety and the Environment in the Oil and Gas Sector, held September 23-26 in Buenos Aires, the Chairperson of ARPEL Social Responsibility Committee and Global Manager of Corporate Social Responsibility of Pluspetrol, Ms. Sandra Martínez, made a presentation entitled "Sustainability and its Value for Business."

    Martínez presented the new strategic guidelines of ARPEL: Energy Transitions, Operational Excellence and Sustainable Management. In addition, she commented on the past and current actions taken by the Committee.

    This Committee was created in 2001 with the purpose of ensuring that the industry operates in a framework of concern and respect for the needs of its stakeholders, while satisfying society´s expectations for social performance, through the development of a responsible corporate culture.

    Additionally, the Workshop "Advances in Safety Process Management" and the Annual Meeting of the Health, Safety and Environment Committee (CASYSIA) of the Association were held September 27. Both events were hosted by YPF.

    Discussions during the workshop dealt with the experiences of different oil and gas companies in Latin America and the Caribbean, focusing on the challenges for the implementation of process safety management systems and of risk-based management, and also on emergency preparedness and management.

    The agenda focused on four key themes: Maturity of Process Safety Management Systems; Process Safety Indicators; Emergency Preparedness and Management; and Management, Performance and Environmental Indicators.

    The meeting began with a presentation made by Oldelval and Petroperú, followed by an overview of the results of the annual benchmarking study on process safety incidents conducted by ARPEL, and with success stories by YPF and PAE.

    The workshop ended with the design of the Work Plan for 2020.
