RETOS presented to South East Asian countries

  • On February 4, ARPEL delivered a videoconference on RETOS for the GI-SEA Regional Workshop - Sub-regional Training Workshop and 13th Annual Meeting of Gulf of Thailand (GOT) National Focal Points that was taking place in Phnom Penh, Cambodia.

The presentation followed a request from GI-SEA (Global Initiative – South East Asia) and the event was organized with the support of Partnerships in Environmental Management for the Seas of East Asia (PEMSEA) and Oil Spill Response Limited (OSRL) for the government of the three countries in the GOT region (Cambodia, Vietnam, and Thailand) to discuss and align on their oil spill preparedness and response, as part of the Joint Statement and Framework Programme.

The objective of the RETOS introductory presentation was to create awareness -by GOT delegates - in order for them to assess their existing response capability and identify their needs at their respective countries.

ARPEL explained how RETOS could be used by South East Asian countries –with the support and coordination of GI-SEA Secretariat- to more efficiently enhance their oil spill planning and readiness.
