“REFINING SECTOR ENERGY TRANSITION", REPORT DEVELOPED BY ARPEL, S&P GLOBAL AND ARTHUR D. LITTLE

  • The "Energy Transition in the Refining Sector" report, prepared by the Association in collaboration with S&P Global (formerly IHS-Markit) and Arthur D. Little, is available to members on the ARPEL website. (https://arpel.org/library/publication/533/)

ARPEL developed this document in order to visualize and analyze the impacts and opportunities derived from the process of energy transitions in the refining industry in Latin America and the Caribbean, its potential contribution to this process and its possible courses of action.

The energy transition to a low-carbon economy has become an unquestionable necessity, which also represents a major challenge for the oil and gas industry in the Region.

In particular, the refining sector faces the dual challenge of meeting the growing energy demand and reducing the carbon footprint of its products, all this with minimal margins compared to other areas, and in a global and regional context of great uncertainty.

The document states that "the top management of the refining sector should consider its business as a multidisciplinary knowledge center for the production and management of energy, and based on that strength find its place to last in time".

The paper featured a webinar presentation held in late 2021. The panel included Walter Fabián Canova from Ecopetrol, Daniel Ciaffone from Pan American Energy, Patricio Farfán from ENAP, Ignacio Millán from YPF, José Pastorino from Ancap, Marcelo Solís Sánchez from EP Petroecuador, and Alejandro Vago from Raízen.

The moderators were Daniel Monzón from Arthur D. Little and Felipe Pérez from IHS-Markit, currently S&P Global.
