ARPEL Report on the Role of Natural Gas in Colombia’s Energy Transition
ARPEL launched a report summarizing the discussions on the “The role of natural gas in Colombia’s energy transition” Digital Dialog, the third in a series of virtual meetings held as part of the Latin America Gas Conference, co-organized by ARPEL, IGU, and EnergyNet, with the support of OLADE.
On this occasion, the speakers were Carlos Cortés, IGU’s Latin America Regional Coordinator; Andrés Sarmiento, President of Naturgas; Alexandra Hernández, VP of Economic and Regulatory Affairs of ACP; Andrés Pontón, Gas and LPG Manager of Ecopetrol, and Juan Pablo Henao, VP of Commercial Development of TGI.
According to the document, natural gas will play a key role in the Colombian energy matrix, potentially reaching 25% by 2050, mainly driven by the transportation sector, coal substitution in industry, and the support for unconventional renewable electric power generation.
