ARPEL Climate Change Working Group prepares Workshop on Climate Vulnerability

  • In mid-November, specialists from ANCAP, CUPET, ENAP, Equion, Pemex, Petroamazonas EP, EP Petroecuador, Petroperu, Pluspetrol and YPF participated in the meeting of the ARPEL Climate Change Working Group, which is coordinated by the Association’s Downstream Director Irene Alfaro.

The ARPEL Climate Change Working Group was created in September 2015 in order to analyze the environment and improve the knowledge of member companies on the vulnerability, risks and opportunities arising from climate change as important elements for the strategic management of business sustainability.

During the first part of the event, which took place at the headquarters of ARPEL in Montevideo, each company made a presentation on their strategies and plans regarding climate change.

Then the main lines of action for the period 2017-2018 were established, with special emphasis on the presentation to the CEOs of ARPEL member companies of the results of the 22nd edition of the Conference of the Parties to United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP 22), which was held from November 7-18 in Morocco.

In addition, in 2017 the Working Group will organize a Workshop on Climate Vulnerability, a critical issue on which intense work will be done to prepare organizations for the potential consequences of climate change for Latin America and the Caribbean.
