COLOMBIA HOSTED MODULE 2 OF ARPEL LEADERSHIP PROGRAM FOR THE DOWNSTREAM SECTOR

  • In late August, the second module of ARPEL Leadership Program - ”Downstream Sector, the New Normal Role of Refining in a World of Changing Demand”- took place in Cartagena de Indias, Colombia.

    This edition was attended by professionals from Ancap, Cupet, Ecopetrol, Petroperú, Transpetro, Recope, Schlumberger, Staatsolie and YPF.

    The first day provided a global and regional strategic downstream outlook, highlighting the global context of developments, challenges and competition.

    The topics discussed this day included: fundamentals of the downstream sector; global refining overview; regulatory trends; and refining in Latin America and competitive environment.

    The training continued with "Global Energy Scenarios and their Impact on Downstream Strategies" and topics were: global energy scenarios review; climate change and energy transition; and downstream disruptions and technology developments.

    Module 2 was delivered by Felipe Pérez and Sandeep Sayal of IHS Markit. It ended with a visit to the Cartagena Refinery (Ecopetrol).

    The main objective of ARPEL Leadership Program, open to professionals from member and non-member companies, is for leaders and future new leaders to gain a broad vision of the future of the industry, the major questions arising from possible scenarios, and the factors and skills that will be needed to solve the problems to successfully navigate toward the future.

    It consists of three modules: Global Factors and their Effects on the Latin American Upstream Sector; Downstream Sector, the New Normal Role of Refining in a World of Changing Demand; and Gas and Renewables, and their Role as Power Fuels in an Increasingly Decarbonized World.
