The facilities of COGA (COMPAÑIA OPERADORA DEL GAS DEL AMAZONAS) in Lurin, Peru, hosted the latest edition of the course “External Corrosion”, Module I of the Accreditation Program on Pipelines Integrity Management. Over 20 technicians and professionals from ENAP, COGA, Petroperu, Pluspetrol and Repsol, attended this training activity -organized by ARPEL.

It is a unique regional training program for the accreditation of evaluators in pipeline integrity management, which began in 2012 and has already more than 100 students enrolled. The program aims at facilitating the detection of different threats that can interfere with this type of infrastructure and implement relevant prevention and mitigation actions to minimize their effects.

It consists in four modules: external corrosion; internal corrosion; forces of nature, operational errors and third parties’ actions; and assessment of mechanical integrity and risk analysis. The module held on June 13-18, 2016 in Peru, deals with every type of external corrosion that can occur in a pipeline, stating and explaining the damage mechanisms, with the objective to facilitate their detection and establish the most appropriate inspection techniques to highlight them. The course provides an outstanding theoretical-practical training through real-scale tests.

A new edition of Module III: “Forces of nature, operational errors and actions by third parties” will be held on next August 29 to September 3, at the facilities of YPFB Transporte (Santa Cruz de la Sierra, Bolivia).
