ARPEL TOOK PART IN THE CIER FORUM ON THE SDGS INTEGRATION IN THE ENERGY SECTOR

  • On May 27, the CIER Forum entitled “The SDGs Integration in the Energy Sector” was held with the participation of Maximiliano Orfali, President of CIER, and Tulio Alves, Executive Director, plus a panel of seven speakers from different organizations and companies in the Region: Global Compact Network Brazil, Global Compact Network Colombia, Enel, Eletrobras, Empresas Públicas de Medellín (EPM), Copel, and ARPEL.

The virtual forum brought together 400 professionals from more than 20 countries.

With the purpose of diving deeper into the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), the speakers shared the insights, experiences, and action plans they are leading to incorporate the SDGs into their management.

Pablo Ferragut, Project Manager of ARPEL, took part in the forum on behalf of the association.

In his speech, Ferragut presented the work carried out to prepare the “Roadmap to promote the contribution to the SDGs of the oil & gas sector in Latin America and the Caribbean,” which will be published soon and was prepared by the SDGs Work Group and the Social Responsibility Committee of ARPEL.

The document, based on the WBCSD methodology and IPIECA’s work, establishes ARPEL’s commitment to the 2030 Agenda, a framework for action, and a shared agenda to promote cooperation and boost the contribution to the SDGs by the companies in the sector.

Ferragut said that “The new business scenario, marked by climate change, energy transition, digitalization, and socio-environmental sustainability, means that the management of companies must be increasingly aligned with stakeholders, with a view to creating shared value and driving sustainability in all their operations.”

“Our ambition at ARPEL is to support companies in the sector in bringing them closer to the state of the art, providing them with management solutions that translate into concrete improvements, while measuring, evidencing, and communicating the progress of the industry,” he concluded.
