ARPEL PARTICIPATED IN THE INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE ON HEALTH, SAFETY, ENVIRONMENT AND SUSTAINABILITY OF SPE

  • ARPEL participated in the last International Conference on Health, Safety, Environment and Sustainability of the Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE), which was held on 27-31 July 2020, in a 100% virtual format.

    On Monday 27, Tiphaine Le Moënner, project manager in charge of the ARPEL HSE Committee, was part of Plenary 1: “After 6 months with COVID-19, what did we learn?”, which was moderated by Olav Skår, IOGP HSE Director.

    The topic was approached from different perspectives: from an operating company with Susanne Schunder-Tatzber, Head of Corporate Health Management of the Austrian company, OMV; from a service provider with Kirsty Walker, Global Project Manager HSE Systems and Practices at Schlumberger; from the analysis of Rhona Flin, Specialist in Industrial Psychology, on the mental health impacts of the pandemic, and through Le Moënner, representing the oil and gas industry in Latin America and the Caribbean, a sector hit by the pandemic.

    “The panel made it possible to cover the complexity of the crisis as a whole and to highlight the importance of cooperation and exchange, the integration of safe behaviors both in professional life and outside, and the responsibility of companies to provide their employees with information, adequate tools, and peace of mind”, said Le Moënner.

    On Thursday 30, in the Session "Industry Learning and Standardization", the ARPEL project manager presented a Paper on the evolution of Industrial Safety results in the Latin American industry (data from 2014 to 2018) and a more in-depth analysis of the results of the E&P business line, demonstrating the need for continue to work hard both on process safety and on the dissemination and integration of a Safety Culture.

    The session was also attended by Dave Fargie (BP) and Kirsty Walker (Schlumberger), and was moderated by Alan Hippman, consultant, and Peter Hudson, CEO of Hudson Consulting Group.
