ARPEL ON PERÚ ENERGÍA WEBINAR: COOPERATION AMONG ALL STAKEHOLDERS AS A FUNDAMENTAL PART OF THE ENERGY TRANSITION PROCESS
ARPEL took part in the webinar “Energy transition in the oil and gas industry in Latin America”, held by Perú Energía on April 22.
The panel was attended by Alexey Kovshin, Vice-President of Van Meurs Energy; Beatriz de la Vega, Energy and Natural Resources Leader of KPMG from Perú, and Irene Alfaro, Downstream Director of ARPEL. It was moderated by Diana Lizárraga, Legal Manager of Perupetro.
Alfaro pointed out that one of the most important factors for a country to drive the transition to lower-emission energy is a sustained and coherent public policy framework.
“Legal certainty is essential for attracting investment in energy projects, as it provides a predictable set of conditions for their development and operation. For this reason, it is important that governments seeking to transform their energy systems do so through roadmaps that reflect stable policies agreed with stakeholders," he said and added that "the volume of investments needed to achieve cleaner energy systems and meet the expectations of the Sustainable Development Goals and the Paris Agreement far exceeds individual governments' capacities, so transitions will require public-private partnerships-“
In this sense, Alfaro stated that: “It is clear that a fundamental part of the Energy Transition process is cooperation between all stakeholders, i.e. national governments, public companies, the private sector, civil society, academia, the financial sector and international organizations.”
“ARPEL is ready and willing to support the acceleration of the Energy Transitions process through dynamic cooperation and integration, as required by the region's energy industry and markets”, he concluded.
