ARPEL AT NATURAL GAS SEMINAR IN BRAZIL ATTENDED BY PRESIDENT OF PETROBRAS
ARPEL participated in the Natural Gas Seminar organized by the Brazilian Petroleum, Gas and Biofuels Institute (IBP), which was held August 14-15.
The meeting took place in an atmosphere of optimism regarding the oil and gas industry, and in particular regarding future business, after a period of economic stagnation in recent years.
The Minister of Economy of Brazil, Mr. Paulo Guedes, emphasized that the wealth of the nation basically depends on two aspects: democracy and market, and that both mechanisms limit abuses of power and monopoly. He also stated that the country is currently undergoing a process of opening and privatization.
For his part, the President of Petrobras (an ARPEL member company), Mr. Roberto Castello Branco, said the company strategy to generate value lies in a more efficient allocation of capital, in debt reduction and in alignment with sustainability, environment, security and governance.
Castello Branco said the main lines of work are opening the onshore and shallow water oil industry to small and medium producers, the sale of a portion of refining capacity, and the creation of a new liberalized natural gas market.
ARPEL has its Gas and Energy Committee that was created in 2014 as a space to share knowledge, good practices and lessons learned in everything related to processing, transportation, supply, distribution, market development, LNG and new uses and technologies of natural gas.
