ARPEL AT MINISTERIAL ROUND TABLE ORGANIZED BY IEA AND OLADE
On October 7, the International Energy Agency (IEA) and the Latin American Energy Organization (Olade) held the Ministerial Roundtable “Perspectives to define a Latin American energy agenda in the post-COVID-19 era".
ARPEL Executive Secretary, Miguel Moyano, was invited as a commentator in Session 2 on "Oil and gas: immediate impacts and long-term strategies."
In his presentation, Moyano stressed that oil and gas provide 70% of energy in Latin America and the Caribbean and represent a high percentage of its Gross Domestic Product (GDP), and that therefore, the sector is a partner essential in the sustainable development of the region.
"Maintaining the necessary supply of oil and gas implies a sustained volume of investment in the sector that exceeds the capacities of governments if they want to achieve cleaner energy systems and meet the expectations of the Sustainable Development Goals," he said.
And he added that: “Therefore, public-private partnerships will be required and ARPEL knows how to reconcile the needs and expectations of state and private companies so that they work with governments and with their main stakeholders to identify the combination of appropriate technologies and a coherent and sustained framework of public policies, with the aim of meeting future energy demand with lower greenhouse gas emissions ”.
As the only regional association of oil and gas companies, ARPEL's mission includes promoting energy integration in the Region so that countries can develop their natural gas resources and accelerate the transition to renewable energies by taking advantage of the existing idle infrastructure, resources and the complementarity of the energy demand of the countries in the Region.
