ARPEL AS SPECIAL GUEST AT THE WEBINAR "OIL AND GAS IN LATIN AMERICA: WHAT DOES THE INDUSTRY THINK AND WHERE IT IS GOING?", ORGANIZED BY BNAMERICAS

  • At the end of September, the BNamericas webinar on the results of the 2020 oil and gas survey took place: What the industry thinks and where it is going.

The Executive Secretary of ARPEL, Miguel Moyano, was the special guest of the activity who was accompanied by the Director of Contents of this international media César Illiano, the Senior Editor, Sebastián Pérez-Ferreiro, and the Energy Editor , Michael Place.

The webinar analyzed where the Latin American O&G industry is heading during 2020 and 2021, taking into account the opinion of professionals active in the region. The axes were: Investment and financing; Risks and investment climate, and The impact of the COVID-19 pandemic and recovery.

“The oil and gas industry has been particularly hit by the pandemic at a time when the world is in full energy transition and seeks to decarbonize its economy. It is probable that the demand for oil and its derivatives has started its decline process or will start soon, but there will be a market for several decades, and Latin America has significant potential in terms of resources. The key to unlocking potential and turning it into reality is in the hands of governments. Setting goals, rules of the game and key strategies is the fundamental way to attract investment and allow the development of the sector ”.

These are some of the conclusions of the "BNamericas 2020 Report: Oil and Gas in Latin America and the Caribbean", which was prepared from the survey developed and promoted by ARPEL and BNamericas.

The oil and gas industry has been one of the hardest hit by the COVID-19 pandemic. Quarantines and lockdown in general strongly reduced fuel consumption, while high-consumption industries, such as air transport, have been operating at minimal levels. In addition to the COVID hit, the document addresses other issues such as how investments are coming, climate change, digitization, mergers, financing and exploration, and threats to the recovery and investment climate, among others.

More than a hundred industry professionals responded to the survey. Most of those consulted corresponded to executive levels, senior management positions and the commercial area, also encompassing a significant sample of the business ecosystem of the sector, with large operators, medium and junior oil companies, suppliers and contractors, among other areas.
