ANCAP trained local suppliers with the support of ARPEL

  •

Suppliers of ANCAP recently participated in a training course on Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), carried out by ARPEL at the request of  the Uruguayan state company.

The course was developed at the headquarters of ANCAP, was attended by 50 companies and was the first experience in the framework of the Supplier Development Program that aims to improve the performance and capabilities in CSR of actual and potential suppliers of the company.

Through this program, ANCAP seeks to promote the growth of local economies where it operates, favoring social development, while collaborating to the reconstruction of the productive fabric, reported Soledad Rodríguez, Head of Corporate Social Responsibility of ANCAP and delegate of this company to ARPEL Social Responsibility Committee.

"The purpose of this training course is to foster our value chain to work with social responsibility, and on the other hand, the Program aims to include CSR issues in the future in weighting suppliers. This implies a qualitative leap as other aspects of our suppliers aimed at sustainability are being evaluated," Rodriguez said. ANCAP Program, she added, is based on three pillars: achieving sustainable development, building a company for the future that may react flexibly to changes in demand, and achieving a more efficient operation.

Some of the topics addressed during this course were: CSR foundations, international principles and standards, the seven key areas of CSR, and CSR management.

Since 2001, ARPEL has a committee devoted to social responsibility issues. The mission assigned to the CSR Committee is to promote the continuous improvement of social responsibility practices of the industry through the development and promotion of best practices and solutions. Its focus is on the various dimensions of corporate social responsibility, and relations with communities and indigenous peoples.
ANCAP has been a member of this Committee since it was set up.
